Running the pink brush through her shower-wet hair, Pippa watched in the mirror as Joe walked behind her into the bathroom.

‘Morning, gorgeous.’ Wrapping his arms around her waist, Joe gently kissed her neck.

‘Morning to you, too.’ She twisted in his arms before kissing him on the lips.

‘I’ve got to go and pick Harley up from his mum’s before she has to leave for work. I’ll pop by after school pick up, if you like, though? Or of course, I’ll see you at the school?’

‘That’d be nice. Maybe we could have a late picnic on the beach with the boys once I close the café up?’

‘Already looking forward to it. I’ll let myself out.’ He gave her a final kiss before leaving.

Turning back to face her reflection in the mirror, she placed the brush on the little shelf underneath the mirror and picked up her bottle of foundation. How could she ever have doubted him? He was one of the good guys. It would be so lovely when they could tell the boys about their relationship, it would mean an end to the snatched moments of intimacy when they were asleep or at school. Maybe one day Joe and Harley could move in and they could be a real little family. Pippa smiled. After Mike had left she never thought she’d meet anyone else, definitely not someone she felt so comfortable around and who she could see a real future with anyway.

Picking up her mobile she checked the time. She had ten minutes before she would have to wake Joshua and bribe him to get ready for school while she went downstairs and started preparing the café for opening. It was the day the Toddler Group parents and children were due to pop by. Pippa dotted foundation across her face before rubbing it in, she thought she had everything in place. She’d already baked extra cupcakes. She’d popped to the local supermarket with Joshua and picked up some colouring books and chunky crayons that she’d leave on the tables and Joe had dropped off some of Harley’s old toys to leave in a basket in the corner of the café. She brushed blusher across her cheeks, she didn’t think there was anything else she could have done.
